I have been raped or sexually assaulted. What should I do? Who can I turn to?
Contact your nearest police station immediately and file a report. You will then be assisted through the upcoming interviews and investigations by a female police officer (if the victim is a woman) or a male police officer (if the victim is a man). It is important that, to ensure no evidence is lost, you do not wash yourself or change your clothes after the incident, nor wash the clothes you were wearing at the time. If you suspect that you were unknowingly administered sedative substances (drugs/medication) prior to the offence, insist on a blood and urine sample being taken immediately. Certain substances that cloud the mind can only be detected chemically and toxicologically in the victim’s bodily fluids for a few hours after ingestion.
