What is official coffin sealing and when is a corpse transport permit (Leichenpass) required?

Official coffin sealing may be required if a deceased person is to be transported abroad. The Institute of Forensic Medicine offers this service. The coffin sealing is supervised, the coffin is officially sealed and a corpse transport permit (Leichenpass) for international transfer is issued.

Official coffin sealing takes place during the opening hours of the Division of Forensic Medicine and Imaging. Funeral homes are asked to arrange the appointment with the secretariat in good time.

To allow the corpse transport permit (Leichenpass) to be prepared, the necessary documents may be sent in advance to formed@irm.uzh.ch.
