Forensic Imaging | Virtopsy®

The research project Forensic Imaging | Virtopsy® is directed by
Prof. Dr. med. Michael Thali. The object of research is the application of modern techniques for the documentation of forensic findings as well as for analysis within the scope of a virtual autopsy employing minimally invasive procedures.

High precision optical 3D digitalization is employed for the examination of the surface of the body including all external findings as well as for the documentation of alleged crime weapons.

The imaging techniques of computer tomography (MSCT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are used for the documentation of findings from the interior of the body.

Forensic reconstructions are conducted with the aid of the digital 3D data gathered from the bodily interior and from the bodily surface.
